What Kind of Team is This?

We got a hint yesterday what kind of team this is.  It’s a grind it out, high quality pitching, do what it takes to win.  But is it a championship quality team?  Is this team capable of beating left handed pitching?  Today’s game may begin to answer these questions.  I know, I know, it’s still early in the season.  But win this game and the Dodgers will be 6-4, lose and they will be just another .500 team.

Hyun-Jin Ryu gets the start against Brett Anderson.  Game starts at 11:05 PDT/1:05 CDT/2:05 EDT.

  1. Lineup – note that Brett Anderson’s career splits show that lefties hit him better than righties. So where are A-Gone and Joc???

    1. Logan Forsythe (R) 2B
    2. Corey Seager (L) SS
    3. Justin Turner (R) 3B
    4. Yasiel Puig (R) RF
    5. Scott Van Slyke (R) 1B
    6. Yasmani Grandal (S) C
    7. Trayce Thompson (R) CF
    8. Enrique Hernandez (R) LF
    9. Hyun-Jin Ryu (R) P

  2. Ruh-roh, Ryu serves up another gopher ball. Why can’t we hit homers too? The wind is coming in during our half of the innings? No, it’s the anemic lineup.

  3. I don’t see anything to get enthused about with this team. Still can’t hit lefties. Still don’t beat good teams on the road. Still don’t hit with RISP.

    • Yeah. Don’t know about WS November. Don’t know about 103 wins. Don’t know about a division win this year. Don’t know about getting into the playoffs. What kind of a team is this?

  4. Hatcher, Hatcher, the mop-up man, the mop-up man, the mop-up man.
Hatcher, Hatcher, the mop-up man, that’s all he can do, he can, he can.

At least one person on this team knows his role today.

  5. What kind of a team is this? Early Season ratings by me, from A to F:

    Starting pitching: B+
    Bullpen: A
    Offense: C
Lineup construction: D (would be worse, but I like Toles in the leadoff spot)

  6. What kind of team is this? Pretty SHITTY!
Doesn’t seem to me like it’s even on par with the last couple of seasons.

Just look at guys like Hernandez capable of hitting maybe a whole .200 for the season, Gutierrez a has-been who never was that much to begin with, VanSlyke who at one time could be said to have potential, and probably two or three others that don’t even belong at the major league level. I’m not sure that I can even give them my usual 88 wins projection. It’s not like they have some stars who are on DL that are going to come back and set this team on fire. This team is what you get for the highest payroll in baseball? I won’t even repeat what I’ve thought of this Front Office since they came into being. Well, maybe I will – ASSHOLES.

  7. Well… they do have a little spark occasionally, though they haven’t shown enough yet to make you think they’re world beaters. A small sample to draw from, and their history suggests they will start to hit and win, but the players bear mentioned will have to produce. Turner, Segar, and Gonzalez can’t do it alone, the entire roster will have to crank it up.

  8. Pathetic performance by the guys… Alot needs to change if this is going to be a contending/championship team…
They have a long way to go….
