  1. My preferred lineup (recognizing of course, this won’t happen on Opening Day, but maybe by June??)

    Toles lf
    Forsythe 2b
    Seager ss
    Turner 3b
    Gonzalez 1b
    Grandal c
    Puig rf
    Pederson cf
    pitcher

Toles will need to prove that he can get on base consistently.

  2. The Dodgers still have a lot of roster spots up for grabs but my guess is the players with limited or no minor league options will get first look assuming no health issues. I like Toles in left field and I would put Joc in center on a regular basis with a day off here and there. If he struggles against lefties the Dodgers have other options. Trayce Thompson has kind of messed things up by recovering quicker than anticipated but the Dodgers may have already decided on Van Slyke, and I am ok with that. With Ethier doubtful as the season opener looms ahead, Puig may get more opportunities in right, and I am ok with that as well. I expect Culberson to be in the minors and perhaps Segedin as well. If Kike is out of options, I believe he has a good chance of making the opening day roster. Minor league options are a big deal to the front office and if a player has them, the front office has a track record of exploiting those options.

As for the pitching, it does seem Kazmir and Urias have little chance of making the opening day roster but we will see. Ryu might have a better chance. At least with Urias and Ryu the Dodgers seem to know what they have. Kazmir is another story, although it has been argued on these pages the Dodgers had every reason to know what they were getting when they signed him. The bullpen looks like a lot of moveable pieces as we saw last season. At least we know who the set up man will be and of course, the closer.

So far this has been a fairly dull spring. Perhaps that is a good thing.

  3. I am rooting for Ryu to be successful this year. Maybe he won’t be on the Opening Day roster, because they will go with a rotation of Kershaw/Hill/Maeda/McCarthy/Wood. But something will happen, and Ryu will come into the rotation around May, perhaps Wood will go to the bullpen. Perhaps I’m just rooting for an old fan favorite, like some of us do with Ethier. I like to think Ryu still has something left in the tank.

  4. Today’s lineup:

    Forsythe 3b
    Utley 1b
    Pederson cf
    Grandal c
    Puig rf
    Toles lf
    Taylor 2b
    Culberson ss
    Kershaw p

Culberson and Taylor are both being given the chance to prove their worth. Dodgers have to decide which one will be the starting shortstop should Seager not be ready on Opening Day.
