Where Have All the Pitchers Gone?

pitchers

sung to “Where Have All the Flowers Gone?”

Where have all the pitchers gone, Kershaw, Ryu, Anderson?
Where have all the pitchers gone, FAZ lost them all?
Where have all the pitchers gone?
Other teams signed the healthy ones.
Oh, when will FAZ ever learn?
Oh, when will FAZ ever learn?

Where have all the good ones gone, Greinke and Cueto?
Where have all the good ones gone, in the offseason?
Where have all the good ones gone?
Gone to division rivals everyone.
Oh, when will FAZ ever learn?
Oh, when will FAZ ever learn?

Where have all the prospects gone, Cotton, Montas, and Holmes?
Where have all the prospects gone, at the trading deadline?
Where have all the prospects gone?
Gone for shitty players in return.
Oh, when will FAZ ever learn?
Oh, when will FAZ ever learn?

Where have all the hitters gone, Manny, Kemp and Ethier?
Where have all the hitters gone, inconsistent offense?
Where have all the hitters gone?
The farm system was never stacked with position players.
Oh, when will FAZ ever learn?
Oh, when will FAZ ever learn?

Where have all the championships gone, fifties, sixties, and eighties?
Where have all the championships gone, long time ago?
Where have all the championships gone?
We don’t have GMs that know how to conquer them.
Oh, when will the Dodgers learn?
Oh, when will they ever learn?

Where have all the sane GMs gone, Bavasi and Campanis?
Where have all the sane GMs gone, these analysts are bad?
Where have all the sane GMs gone?
Only the O’Malleys knew how to pick ’em.
Oh, when will the Dodgers ever learn?
Oh, when will the Dodgers ever learn?

Where have all the pitchers gone, Kershaw, Ryu, Anderson?
Where have all the pitchers gone, FAZ lost them all?
Where have all the pitchers gone?
Other teams signed the healthy ones.
Oh, when will FAZ ever learn?
Oh, when will FAZ ever learn?

  1. TBLA says the Dodgers are “being cautious” with Rich Hill. What the hell Hill, he’ll never pitch for the Dodgers, he’s got just a month and a half left on the rental agreement.

  2. The FAZ front office created this problem by seeding the starting rotation with a bunch of injury prone pitchers. You reap what you sow. Now that most of the rotation is injured and many can’t pitch past the second inning (or a couple can go five innings), we see the shit that has come out the other end. The Beav is right – this pitching staff won’t go far in the playoffs, if it even gets that far.

Let’s face facts. This is a rebuilding year. FAZ built the pitching staff this way to allow for the young guys to get their MLB experience – Urias, Stripling, Stewart, and soon De Leon. Too bad they didn’t hang onto Cotton and Montas, they could get started also.

  3. Starting pitchers with the most starts, excludes those who are currently on the DL:

    Maeda 23, Kazmir 23, Stripling 10, Urias 10, Stewart 2, Anderson 1

Average innings per start for these same pitchers:

    Maeda 5 2/3, Kazmir 5 1/2, Stripling 5 1/2, Urias 4 1/2, Stewart 4 1/2, Anderson 1

  4. Great song although to be fair Bavasi and Campanis did not have to deal with the current free agent and arbitration rules, at least for most of their careers.

The front office took big gambles on signing this staff and for this team to still be in contention for a playoff spot is remarkable. The troubling part is even with a better staff the previous three seasons it still was not good enough.

  5. I have to wonder what the players think of the FO. Two years running now they’re in contention and the FO goes out and gets nothing to help them at the trade deadline. If I’m a player, I’m pissed. Now maybe its good baseball not to trade the likes of Urias or Ponce de Leon for a front line pitcher, but it sounded like there were plenty on the team that would’ve and they end up with a guy that can’t even take the ball.

And how is it you trade for a guy that can’t even pitch and not base the compensatory player(s) upon how much or if he even pitches? Looks like Beane put one over on ol’ Faz.

This is why I assert that you can’t rebuild and contend at the same time. To rebuild, you gotta take your lumps like the Cubs did for a few seasons. There’s not much point in going to the playoffs by “contending” when you don’t put the horses together to really contend. You hear the playoffs are a crapshoot, but really, what team has reached the end with the kinda crap we’ve got?

  6. My biggest concern is that whatever joy and surprise the bullpen has been, they are all on a fast track for either elbow surgery or shoulder surgery once this FO is done acquiring nothing but hobbled starters.

  7. FAZ thinks they have a fix for the bullpen – they shuttle relievers back and forth to AAA. They think they can spread around the innings to more relievers this way. But kahli, you are right, the bullpen will break down soon due to too much work.

  8. Anderson is pathetic…. A total piece of shit. He trumped the Dodgers taking the qualifing offer… We lost. I hope they learned a lesson….

FAZ seems to find all the decrepit pieces of shit floating in free agency… I think they suck……

  9. I’ve been willing, sort of, to give the FO a pass until the Hill/Reddick deal. If these two were staying on the team, that would be one thing, but rentals that have yet to contribute SUCKS A BIG ONE! They may yet contribute, though if things stay as they are somebody has got to start wondering why they hired this bunch.

  10. 1/2 game, still 2nd place, but the gnats are going backwards, while the Dodgers are treading water, for all the pitching reasons given above. The Dodgers may out hit the gnats for the division win, but when it comes time to Play-offs, without kershaw forget it. And that may be the one hope that keeps this team floating, once they shut kersh down for the season, the bats may go silent.
Great song lyrics. I am actually surprised how many starts Maeda has given us, knowing that Japan SPs pitch less during their rotation. of course his arm may be about to come off.
Im sure last years pick of Latos, after his Dodgers debut pissed off the team, This years trade deadline probably completely infuriated them, and maybe that why they are hitting.
I wonder what Stan Kasten is thinking about Friedman right now, and as the season dwindles down, really not going to buy into “oh well, didnt know Mcarthy, ryu, anderson wouldnt perform, all 3 have recent injury.

  11. The Giants have lost 2 games in every three game series played, since the AS break. They lost both games to Boston and split a 4 games series with Washington. They’ve already lost the 1st game against Pitt. They face the Mets next.

The Phillies win % is .471. The Reds win % is even lower at .410. The Dodgers need to pick up 2 games during this 7 day stretch.
